சிவாலய ஓட்டம் துவங்கும் முன்சிறை என்ற ஊரை ஒட்டியுள்ள திருமலை சிவாலயம் முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்தாகப் போற்றப்படுகிறது. 

மலை மீது இருக்கும் கோயிலுக்குச் செல்வதற்குப் படிக்கட்டுகள் உள்ளன. இங்கு சிவனுக்கும் திருமாலுக்கும் தனித் தனியே சந்நிதிகள் உண்டு. 

இங்கு ஸ்ரீராமர் வந்து வழிபட்டதாகச் சொல்கிறது ஸ்தல புராணம்! .பிரணவத்தின் பொருள் தெரியாத பிரம்மாவை முருகப்பெருமான் இங்கு சிறைப்பிடித்ததாகவும், அதனால் இந்த ஊர் முன்சிறை என்றானது என்றும் சொல்வார்கள்.

 திருமலை கோயிலில் சாயரட்சை பூஜை முடிந்ததும், சிவாலய ஓட்டம் தொடங்குகிறது. பின், மார்த்தாண்டம் வழியாக திக்குறிச்சியை அடைவார்கள்.

1st Shivalayam Tirumalai

Thirumalai Shivalaya is a prominent place in the town known as the ' Munchirai ' where the Shivalayam flow begins.

There are stairs to the temple on the hill. Shiva and MahaVishnu have separate Temples here.

It is said that Lord Rama worshiped here. Lord Brahma imprisoned here, so the city was known as Munchirai.

The Shivalaya Ootam begins when the Sooriyarachchi Puja is completed at the Tirumalai Temple. Then, they will reach Thickurichy via Marthandam.
